Vampire's Charm Demo

Countess Dracula, as PG Soft's October 2020 story calls her, lures men to her mansion and turns their blood into diamonds. On the reels she is the top-paying portrait, and above them hangs an empty picture frame. When the Expanding Symbols Feature starts, the frame fills with one symbol, every copy of that symbol grows over its whole reel, and the grown reels slide together on the left. Over a 100-spin demo session at 6.00 the game paid on 37 spins and gave back 346.20, and the feature accounted for three of my four biggest results.

The paytable

Four picture symbols already pay for two on a line; the card ranks need three. The right-hand column assumes all ten lines filled with five of a kind:

Symbol2 / 3 / 4 / 5 on a lineAll 10 lines of five vs stake
Countess10 / 100 / 350 / 1,0001,000x
Coffin5 / 20 / 100 / 500500x
Goblet with rose3 / 10 / 40 / 350350x
Blue cross with rose3 / 10 / 40 / 200200x
A, K- / 5 / 20 / 100100x
Q, J, 10- / 3 / 10 / 5050x

The last column only makes sense with the expanding feature: in the base game a symbol rarely fills more than one line, but expanded across five reels it fills all ten.

Ten lines and a scatter that also substitutes

Ten fixed lines run across five reels of three rows; each line pays from the left and keeps only its best combination. There is no separate wild: the scatter, a pair of red lips in a gold frame, stands in for every symbol, and three or more of them start the free spins.

Vampire's Charm 5x3 board and picture frame

I kept the 6.00 the demo starts with, size 0.30 and level 2 over ten lines, so each point in the paytable was worth 0.60. Most symbols pay from three on a line; the countess, the coffin, the goblet and the blue cross pay from two.

How the expanding symbol works

The feature is triggered at random during a base-game spin. A symbol other than the scatter appears in the frame, and the spin plays out in two steps:

  1. Ordinary line wins on the board are paid first.
  2. Every copy of the chosen symbol expands to fill its reel, the expanded reels move to the leftmost positions, and the lines are counted again for that symbol alone.
Vampire's Charm countess chosen for expansion

Because the expanded reels sit side by side from reel one, all ten lines pay at once. The number of reels the symbol happened to occupy decides the length of the win.

Three features, three results

Spin 21 picked the countess, and she sat on two reels. Two countesses on a line are worth 10 points; ten lines make 100 points, 60.00 at my bet, ten stakes.

Vampire's Charm two countess reels pay 60

Spin 93 chose the K, a low symbol, but it had landed on three reels. Three Ks pay 5 points, ten lines 50 points, 30.00. Spin 60 chose the blue cross on two reels: 3 points a line, 18.00.

Vampire's Charm three K reels pay 30

The arithmetic shows the ceiling: the countess on all five reels would pay 1,000 points on each of ten lines, 10,000 points, 1,000 stakes from one spin.

One chosen symbol for the whole bonus round

Lips on the board set the length: three of them mean 10 free spins, four mean 15, five mean 20, and more lips during the round add to it. At the start one symbol is chosen, and it expands on every free spin of the round instead of waiting for a random trigger. On spin 72 two scatters landed on reels one and two and the game slowed the third reel as if a third might follow. It did not, but the two lips substituted into several lines for 67.20, the best result of my session.

The expanding-reel idea is related to the full-reel wilds of Bikini Paradise, PG Soft's other 2020 slot that rewards whole reels of one symbol.

Session and figures

The balance went from 100,000.00 to 99,746.20, so 346.20 came back from 600.00 staked. Officially it returns 96.75% and can pay up to 20,000x. Play money keeps it free, as with every other PG Soft slot on this site.

Vampire's Charm FAQ

What does the Expanding Symbols Feature do?
A random symbol is chosen. After normal wins are paid, every copy of it fills its reel, the filled reels move to the left, and the lines pay again for that symbol.
Is there a wild in Vampire's Charm?
The scatter, the red lips, does the job: it substitutes for every symbol and also triggers the free spins.
How long are the free spins?
10 for three scatters, 15 for four, 20 for five. One expanding symbol is picked at the start and used on every free spin.
Which symbol pays the most?
The countess: 10 points for two on a line up to 1,000 for five.

Small lines, one big idea

Without the expanding symbol, Vampire's Charm is a plain ten-line slot with modest wins; my session lost more than four tenths of the money staked. The feature changes the scale, because it turns one symbol into ten paying lines at once, and its value depends on luck twice over: which symbol is chosen and on how many reels it already sits.
