In Thunder Reckoning a win leaves a mark on the board. Every winning symbol charges the cell it stood on, a cell charged twice in one spin turns into a cash prize when the cascades stop, and four such cells in a square merge into one much bigger prize. The game page on pgsoft.com is dated 12 October 2026, which makes this Norse slot the latest release among the PG Soft demos I have recorded. I played 100 spins at 12.00: the free spins came once and paid 177.60, and my best base-game spin, 95.40, owed most of its total to charged cells, not to symbols.

Six reels, no paylines
The grid is six reels of five symbols, thirty cells, with no lines and no ways. A symbol has to show up at least eight times, in any position, to pay, and the payout grows with the count in three steps; winners vanish after payment and fresh symbols drop into the gaps. The stake is built from a fixed base bet of 20, a bet size of 0.03 to 0.90 and a level from 1 to 10. My whole session ran on the default 12.00 (0.30 times 2 times 20), where one point of the paytable equals 0.60 in cash.
Thor's portrait tops the paytable. A green serpent and a blue wolf pay half of his values, the winged helmet, arm ring and gauntlet a fifth, and three runes in red, green and blue fill the bottom:
| Symbol | 8 to 11 | 12 to 14 | 15+ | 8 to 11 at 12.00 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thor | 20 | 30 | 40 | 12.00 |
| Serpent, wolf | 10 | 15 | 20 | 6.00 |
| Helmet, arm ring, gauntlet | 4 | 6 | 8 | 2.40 |
| Red, green, blue rune | 2 | 3 | 6 | 1.20 |
The scatter, a golden tree, has no payout of its own. Even fifteen Thors pay 24.00 at this stake, two stakes, which is the most any single group of symbols can earn.
Charged once, charged twice
A cell that takes part in a win for the first time is half charged, shown by a faint hammer. A second win on the same cell charges it fully and the hammer lights up. In the base game all charges are cleared before the next spin, which means a single win never creates a prize: it takes a cascade, a second win after the first one has dropped out. Forge of Wealth works on a similar two-hit idea, but only on four fixed anvil slots that add x2; here every cell of the grid can be charged, and the reward is cash.
My first spin of the session showed the whole cycle. Ten arm rings and nine helmets won at the same moment, 4 points each, 4.80, and those nineteen cells took their first charge.
After the drop, twelve gauntlets paid 6 points, 3.60. Seven of them sat on cells the rings and helmets had already charged, and those seven hammers turned bright.
Nothing else won, so the Prize Symbols Feature took over. The seven bright cells were not neighbours in a square, and each became a single prize of 0.25x the bet, 3.00. They added 21.00 to the 8.40 from symbols, and the spin paid 29.40, more than two thirds of it from the cells.
What a charged cell is worth
Fully charged cells that fill a square of 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 merge into one prize of that size, and if all thirty cells are charged the whole grid becomes a single 5x6 prize. The ranges from the rules, with their cash value at my stake:
| Prize | Times the bet | At 12.00 |
|---|---|---|
| Single cell | 0.25x to 1x | 3.00 to 12.00 |
| 2x2 | 5x to 10x | 60.00 to 120.00 |
| 3x3 | 20x to 200x | 240.00 to 2,400.00 |
| 4x4 | 50x to 500x | 600.00 to 6,000.00 |
| 5x5 | 200x to 1,000x | 2,400.00 to 12,000.00 |
| 5x6, the full grid | 1,000x to 5,000x | 12,000.00 to 60,000.00 |
The step from singles to squares is steep. Four charged cells as singles pay at least 1x between them, but the same four cells in a square pay at least 5x. Most of my prizes were 0.25x singles; a 1x single showed up twice, on spins 15 and 43.
Squares in the base game
A 2x2 formed twice in 100 spins, both times out of small wins. On spin 65 eight blue runes paid 1.20, the cascade brought green runes for another 1.20, and exactly four cells, two on reel three and two on reel four, had been in both wins. They merged into a square, its counter rolled past 8x before settling on 5x, and 2.40 worth of runes became a 62.40 spin.
Spin 25 went further. Sixteen red runes opened it for 6 points, 3.60, two more cascades added 2.40 each, and at the end the charged cells held a square on reels two and three plus nine singles elsewhere. The square stopped on 5x again, 60.00, the nine singles were all 0.25x, 27.00, and with 8.40 from symbols the spin paid 95.40, a little under eight stakes.
Ten spins at 180.00, on video
I also recorded ten spins at the top stake, 180.00 (size 0.90, level 10), where a paytable point is worth 9.00 and a 0.25x cell 45.00. Seven of the ten paid nothing. Two of the other three ran long and ended on the Big Win screen.
Spin four cascaded through 162.00 of symbols and left a 2x4 block of charged cells along the top edge. It paid as two squares side by side, 900.00 each at 5x, since a 3x3 would need a third row. Four 0.25x singles and one 1x added 360.00, and the spin came to 2,322.00, almost thirteen stakes.
On the sixth spin 90.00 of symbols ended in one square at 5x, 900.00, and eight 0.25x singles, 360.00, for 1,350.00. The tenth paid 315.00, of which five singles made 225.00. The clip finishes on 102,187.00, 2,187.00 above where it started after 1,800.00 staked. All seven squares I saw, three here and four in my 100-spin session, settled on 5x, the bottom of their range.
Spin 19: ten free spins
Spin 19 put three golden trees on the grid and started 10 free spins. Every scatter beyond three is worth two extra spins, and the rules allow a retrigger inside the round. One rule changes everything inside it: every cell starts the round half charged, and nothing is cleared between free spins. Any winning symbol therefore charges its cell fully at once, and the charged cells stay on the grid until the round ends, when all of them turn into prizes together.
Only two of my ten free spins paid. The second one won 1.20 and then 2.40 in a cascade, and a later one landed nine Thors, 20 points or 12.00. The symbols gave 15.60 in the whole round.
Those wins were enough to charge eighteen of the thirty cells. After the last free spin they formed two 2x2 squares at 5x each and ten singles, four at 0.50x and six at 0.25x: 120.00 plus 42.00, so 162.00 in prizes. The round ended at 177.60, nearly fifteen stakes, and over 90% of it came from the cells.
A losing hundred
| Spins | 100 at 12.00 |
| Staked / returned | 1,200.00 / 761.40 |
| Final balance | 99,561.40 from 100,000.00 |
| Paying spins | 40 |
| Base spins ending with prizes | 20 of the 39 paying ones |
| Free spins rounds | 1 (spin 19, 177.60) |
| Longest run without a win | 7 spins, 75 to 81 |
About 63% of the stake came back. The free spins and the two squares, 335.40 together, were 44% of everything paid; the other 37 winning spins brought 426.00, on average a little under one stake each. Twenty of the 39 paying base spins ended with at least one prize, so cascades that recharge a cell were common, but a square needs four charged cells in the right shape, and that happened only twice.

More than half of what my session returned came from charged cells, not from symbol wins. Both base-game squares started from runes, the cheapest symbols, and the lowest square, 60.00, is worth more than any symbol group can pay at this stake. In Asgardian Rising, PG Soft's earlier Norse slot, winning symbols charge multiplier plates under the reels; here they charge the grid itself, and two rune wins worth 1.20 each can end in a prize of five times the bet.
