Fortune Ox Demo

Fortune Ox is the PG Soft slot made for the Year of the Ox: the studio announced it in February 2021, a year after Fortune Mouse and a year before Fortune Tiger. It is a small game with a simple promise. Three reels, ten fixed lines, a feature that respins the reels until you win, and a x10 multiplier when one symbol fills the whole screen. The top prize of 2,000x is not a vague cap either; as shown below, it is exactly what a screen full of wilds pays. I played the demo below at 36.00 a spin and checked both of my wins line by line.

Ten lines on a 3-4-3 board

The board has three reels: the outer two show three symbols each and the middle one shows four, ten positions in total. All ten lines are always active, wins pay from the leftmost reel to the right, and only the best win on each line counts. With three reels, every win is three of a kind, so the paytable has a single value per symbol.

Fortune Ox demo 3-4-3 reels

The opening screen is a showcase rather than a spin: gold ingots on reel one, four ox wilds on reel two and boxes of coins on reel three. The wild substitutes for every symbol and pays the most on its own. The numbers on both sides of the reels mark where each of the ten lines starts and ends.

Fortune Ox 10 fixed paylines

Because the middle reel is taller, the lines are not the usual rows and diagonals of a 3x3 game; they run through four positions on reel two. Fortune Rabbit later used the same 3-4-3 board with ten lines.

Two wins at 36.00, line by line

My stake was 0.90 x 4 x 10 = 36.00, so each paytable point was worth 0.90 x 4 = 3.60. The first win lit three lines.

Fortune Ox red envelope line win

One line carried three red envelopes, which pay 10, and two lines carried three plates of oranges, which pay 5 each. That is 10 + 5 + 5 = 20 points, and 20 x 3.60 = 72.00, twice the stake. The second win shows how much the wild matters on a board this small:

Fortune Ox oranges and wild win

Two wilds on reel three turned two oranges on each of the first two reels into five winning lines at 5, and a firecracker pair on the bottom into one more line at 3. That is 25 + 3 = 28 points, and 28 x 3.60 = 100.80, or 2.8x the stake. Every one of those six lines ends on a wild.

The Fortune Ox Feature: respins until a win

The feature can start on any spin, at random, while the reels are still turning. When it does, reels one and three show the same symbols, and all three reels respin until there is a win.

Fortune Ox feature respins until win

Matching the outer reels is what makes the respins work. Once reels one and three agree, any symbol in the middle that matches them, or a wild, completes a line, so the game only has to keep spinning until the middle reel cooperates. In the rules illustration both outer reels are filled with gold ingots, and the middle reel only needs an ingot or a wild on a line. The feature guarantees a win, not a big one. Fortune Mouse solves the same problem the other way round, by fixing wilds on its middle reel and respinning the outer ones.

x10 for a full screen, and where 2,000x comes from

When one symbol, or that symbol mixed with wilds, fills all ten positions, the win is multiplied by x10. On a full screen every one of the ten lines pays, so the arithmetic is simple: ten lines times the symbol's pay, times ten.

Fortune Ox x10 full screen multiplier

A spin costs ten times bet size and level. Ten wilds therefore pay 10 x 200 x 10 = 20,000 points against a 10-point stake, which is 2,000x, the game's stated maximum. A full screen of gold ingots is worth 1,000x, and even the humble oranges pay 50x. The table below lists each symbol per line and as a full screen:

Symbol3 on a lineOne line vs stakeFull screen with x10
Ox (wild)20020x2,000x
Gold ingots10010x1,000x

Red envelopes101x100x
Oranges50.5x50x
Firecrackers30.3x30x

The paytable on screen

The in-game paytable shows the same seven values, with the ox wild alone at the top. A line win is that value multiplied by bet size and bet level.

Fortune Ox paytable symbol payouts

Two symbols pay less than the stake on a single line, the oranges and the firecrackers, and the red envelopes return exactly the stake. That is why most spins that pay at all pay small, and why the respin feature and the full-screen multiplier carry the game.

Fortune Ox by the numbers

PG Soft's game page lists a 96.75% RTP and a 2,000x maximum win. The studio also publishes the Gaming Associates certification report for the UK Gambling Commission, dated 18 February 2021, which confirms the 96.75% theoretical RTP and records 96.82% from its own simulated results. PG Soft does not publish a volatility rating on the game page, so I leave it out:

In Brazil the game is often called the jogo do touro, and it shares the Fortune series' problem of cloned copies on unlicensed sites. Licensed Brazilian operators run on .bet.br domains, and a round can be checked with PG Soft's official game verification by its Transaction ID; the steps are on the Fortune Tiger demo page.

Bet: 0.30 to 90 in the demo

The demo opens at 6.00. The Bet Options panel multiplies a bet size, a bet level from 1 to 10 and the ten fixed lines; my session ran at 0.90 x 4 x 10 = 36.00.

Fortune Ox demo bet options

Bet sizes run from 0.03 to 0.90, so a spin costs from 0.30 (0.03 x 1 x 10) to 90.00 (0.90 x 10 x 10). Real-money limits depend on the casino and the currency, and the rest of the PG Soft slot demos on this site use the same panel.

Fortune Ox demo: FAQ

Is the Fortune Ox demo free?
Yes. The demo on this page is PG Soft's original Fortune Ox on a virtual balance, in English, with no registration, deposit or download. The respin feature and the x10 multiplier work exactly as in the real-money game.
How does the Fortune Ox Feature work?
It triggers at random on any spin. Reels one and three show the same symbols, and all reels respin until there is a win, so the feature always pays something, although often a small line.
How does the x10 multiplier work in Fortune Ox?
When one symbol, alone or together with wilds, covers all ten positions, the win is multiplied by x10. A full screen of oranges pays 50x the stake, gold ingots 1,000x and wilds 2,000x.
What is the RTP of Fortune Ox?
PG Soft lists 96.75%. The Gaming Associates certification report from February 2021 confirms that figure and measured 96.82% in its simulation.
What is the maximum win in Fortune Ox?
The maximum is 2,000x the stake, which is exactly a screen of ten wilds: ten lines paying 200 each, multiplied by x10.

Verdict

Fortune Ox is the clearest game in the Fortune series to calculate: ten lines, seven symbols, one respin feature and one multiplier, and the 2,000x top prize is simply a full screen of wilds. Most wins are small, as my 72.00 and 100.80 showed, and the feature promises a win rather than a large one. Three years later Fortune Dragon moved the multiplier onto a reel of its own, so a single line can be multiplied. Spend some time in the demo until you have seen the respins a few times; it is the best way to judge whether the ox's guaranteed but often modest wins suit you.
