Safari Wilds Demo

What happens to a symbol after it wins? In most cascading slots it is removed and that is the end of it. In Safari Wilds, an August 2023 release from PG Soft, a winning symbol on reel three or reel four leaves a wild in its place for the next round, so a cascade that starts in the middle of the board tends to feed itself. A multiplier under the savanna climbs at the same time, x1, x2, x3 and then x5. I gave the demo 100 spins at 12.00, and the longest chain I saw paid 109.20.

A board between 400 and 22,500 ways

The six reels are not the same height: five rows on the outer four and six on reels three and four. Lions, elephants, zebras and the card symbols can arrive as blocks two or three rows tall, and a block counts once, so the ways figure moves from spin to spin. The game prints the current figure above the reels; on spin 51 it read 4,800. Super Golf Drive, three months older, mixes tall and short blocks on a square 6x6 grid in the same way.

Safari Wilds board with 4,800 ways

The wild only lands on reels three and four, and it cannot stand in for the scatter, an acacia tree at sunset. With my 12.00 stake (size 0.30, level 2, base bet 20) one point from the paytable below was worth 0.60.

Wild Transformation on the middle reels

After a winning round is paid and new symbols have dropped, every symbol on reels three and four that took part in the previous win comes back as a wild. The outer reels do not do this. During a long cascade the two middle columns fill with wilds, and every wild there makes it easier for the next round to connect across the board.

Safari Wilds wild transformation at x2

Spin 51 in four rounds

My best spin shows the two mechanics working together, one step of the ladder per round:

  1. Round one at x1 paid 2.40.
  2. A wild appeared on reel four where a winner had been, and round two at x2 paid 18.00.
  3. Round three at x3 added 28.80.
  4. Round four reached x5 and paid 60.00, with a wild at the foot of reel three.
Safari Wilds x5 round paying 60.00

The four rounds add up to 109.20, a Big Win of 9.1 stakes. Spin 58 followed a shorter path, 14.40 at x1 and then 43.20 at x2 and at x3, for 100.80. In both spins nearly all of the money came from rounds paid at x2 or more; the first win of a spin was almost always small.

Values are per way, before the multiplier. A full way of lions pays 2.5 stakes; what decides a win is how many ways connect, and the middle wilds raise that count more than any single animal can.

Twelve free spins on a doubled ladder

The free spins need four scatters, which pay 12 spins; a fifth and sixth scatter are worth two spins each. In the round the ladder is doubled to x2, x4, x6 and x10, and each free spin climbs it from x2. Free spins can be won again inside the feature. Ultimate Striker, released two months later, uses the same base ladder and the same opening x2/x4/x6/x10 in its free spins, but there the four values keep growing after every winning free spin. My session never showed four scatters, so this section follows the rules.

100 spins on the savanna

The balance fell from 100,000.00 to 99,767.20: 967.20 back from 1,200.00 staked. Thirty-five spins paid something. Only five went past 70.00: spins 51, 58, 73, 94 and 16, paying 109.20, 100.80, 83.40, 75.60 and 72.00, which is 441.00 or nearly half the session's return. The other thirty paid 526.20 between them, and eleven of those were under 5.00.

Safari Wilds: quick answers

Which reels turn winning symbols into wilds?
Only reels three and four, the two six-row reels in the middle. Any winner on those reels returns as a wild when the cascade refills the board.
Does the multiplier carry over between spins?
No. Every spin starts at x1, or at x2 in the free spins, and climbs only while the cascade keeps winning.
How long is the Safari Wilds bonus round?
Twelve for four scatters, plus two for each extra scatter, and the feature can retrigger.
What was the best spin in the 100-spin test?
Spin 51, which climbed to x5 over four rounds and paid 109.20 on a 12.00 bet.
How large is the highest-paying symbol?
The lion pays 20 points for three on a way and 50 for six, before bet size, level and multiplier are applied.
